Former CIA Official Arrested After FBI Finds $40M Gold Bars at Home
FBI arrested former senior CIA official David Rush this month after finding $40 million worth of gold bars at his Virginia home. Officers also seized $2 million in cash and 35 luxury watches during the search, court documents reveal. Rush was charged with theft of government money after providing false information about his education and military background in his job application. He lied about obtaining university degrees and serving as a navy pilot, and obtained $77,000 in fraudulent military leave pay. According to Channel Television, the former official had top secret clearance and access to classified information. From November 2025 to March 2026, Rush made multiple requests to his employer for 'a significant quantity of foreign currency and tens of millions of dollars in gold bars for work-related expenses,' though the affidavit doesn't specify the purpose. The gold and most cash were later discovered missing from workplace storage, triggering the home search. Rush's lawyer declined comment to the Times.
