Former Falconets winger Flourish Chioma Sabastine has signed a three-year contract with Portuguese women's champions Benfica, DAILY POST reports. The deal includes an option for Benfica to extend it for a fourth season. Sabastine left Turkish champions Fenerbahçe at the end of last season when her contract expired, having previously played for Stade Reims in France and Galatasaray in Turkey.

The move marks a step up in her career, giving her regular exposure to top-tier European competition and a bigger stage to showcase her talent. For Nigerian women's football, her success abroad could inspire more young players to seek overseas opportunities and raise the profile of the Nigeria Women Football League. Her record includes three NWFL titles with Bayelsa Queens and appearances for Nigeria at the 2022 and 2024 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cups.

At 21, the versatile winger now joins a Benfica side that dominates the Portuguese league. Fans will watch how quickly she adapts and whether the move earns her a call-up to the senior Super Falcons. Will her Benfica stint be the breakthrough that locks in a permanent place on Nigeria's national team?
