Former NERC chair Amadi claims Tinubu avoiding 2027 campaign stress, will use governors to secure votes
Dr Sam Amadi, former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), accused President Bola Tinubu of avoiding the stress of campaigning ahead of the 2027 presidential election, alleging Tinubu would rely on governors to 'cash out' votes for him. Amadi made these claims in a post on his X handle earlier today, reacting to Tinubu's statement that he might not visit every state during the campaign.
Amadi described Tinubu as 'sincere' but unable to withstand campaign stress, saying: 'Tinubu is very honest here. He will not campaign because he cannot face the stress of a campaign. He will allow the governors to cash out the votes through all means.' He urged governors expected to work for Tinubu's re-election to conduct their activities peacefully and allow opposition parties to campaign without hindrance.
The former NERC chairman warned that Nigeria's democratic institutions have already suffered significant damage, cautioning against further deterioration. 'Nigerian democracy is already damaged. But we should not damage it further for fear of the military. We are vulnerable. Consider what is going on around us in West Africa. We need democracy to survive,' Amadi stated.
With concerns about potential vote manipulation through gubernatorial influence and democratic backsliding, how can citizens ensure the 2027 election remains free, fair, and reflective of the people's will?
