Former NFA Chairman Ibrahim Galadima dies at 75 after prolonged illness
Former NFA Chairman Ibrahim Galadima has died at the age of 75 after a prolonged illness. His death was confirmed on Saturday by former Secretary-General of the NFA, Sani Ahmed Toro. Galadima led the Nigeria Football Association before its restructure into the Nigeria Football Federation and served as Chairman of the Kano State Sports Council from 1981 to 1983.
Born in 1951 in Fagge, Kano, he was a member of the National Sports Commission and held the post of Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee from 1985 to 1987. He was later reappointed as Chairman of the Kano State Sports Council, served on the Presidential Monitoring Committee for the 1995 FIFA World Youth Championship, and was a member of the CAF Youth Championship Organising Committee. In 2002, he was elected Chairman of the then Nigeria Football Association, cementing his legacy as one of Nigeria’s influential sports administrators.
His passing marks the end of an era in Nigerian sports governance, reflecting decades of contributions to football and sports development at state and national levels. Burial arrangements will be announced later by his family.
