Former Power Minister Saleh Mamman jailed 75 years over ₦33.8 billion power fraud
Former Power Minister Saleh Mamman has been convicted and sentenced to 75 years imprisonment over an alleged ₦33.8 billion fraud linked to power projects, according to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) findings.
The EFCC brought the case, accusing Mamman of money laundering and conspiracy involving funds meant for the Zungeru and Mambilla hydroelectric power projects. This represents a major escalation from earlier proceedings, where the court only dismissed his no-case submission and ordered him to open his defense.
The sentencing sends a strong message about accountability for those managing Nigeria's critical infrastructure funds. With Nigeria facing persistent power challenges, the misuse of ₦33.8 billion meant for power generation represents not just financial corruption but direct harm to the country's economic development and power sector progress.
