Former Speaker Dogara: ADC needs clear vision beyond 2027 rhetoric
Former House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara has criticized the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections, stating that the party must present concrete policy alternatives, not just criticisms of President Bola Tinubu's government, to be taken seriously. Speaking on 'Sunday Politics' monitored by Daily Post on January 26, 2026, Dogara said he has not heard any substantive policy discussion from the ADC that centers on the people.
'What vision or idea are they rallying behind? I have yet to see that. Until they bring alternatives to what the President is doing—and we look at them critically and see they are better than what we have—we cannot take them seriously,' Dogara stated. 'In the absence of that, everyone knows it is just gimmicks that will take them nowhere.'
The ADC was adopted as the platform for a major opposition coalition in July 2025, bringing together prominent figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, ex-Senate President David Mark (chairman), former Minister Rauf Aregbesola (secretary), and former Minister Bolaji Abdullahi (publicity secretary). The coalition has vowed to unseat the APC in 2027, citing rising poverty and economic hardship.
Dogara's critique comes amid intense political positioning for the 2027 elections. For Nigerians watching this political re-alignment, the key question becomes: Beyond party loyalty and rhetoric, which platform offers practical, credible solutions to economic hardship, poverty, and governance challenges that affect daily life?
