France confirmed its first confirmed case of Ebola virus disease on national territory, announcing that a doctor who had recently returned from the Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive. The French health ministry said the case was identified in mainland France and did not specify the city or the patient’s current condition. The announcement comes as the World Health Organization warns that Ebola is spreading rapidly in the DRC, raising concerns about potential spread through international travel.

For Nigerians, the case underscores the importance of staying informed about travel-related health risks, especially for those with recent travel to or from the DRC or France. While no cases have been reported in Nigeria, travelers should monitor their health for symptoms such as fever, fatigue, vomiting, or unexplained bleeding and seek medical care immediately if they appear. Following guidance from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and avoiding direct contact with bodily fluids of sick individuals can reduce risk. Health authorities advise anyone who develops symptoms after travel to report to a health facility promptly.
