Metro FRSC marshal, driver killed while rescuing accident victims in Edo Published on February 20, 2026 By Enahoro Iyemefokhai A yet-to-be-identified Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, traffic marshal and a driver were reportedly killed in a tragic road accident during a rescue operation at the Oviogie community along the Benin-Ore Road in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State. DAILY POST reports that the incident happened on Thursday, February 19, 2026. The Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cyril Mathew, disclosed this to newsmen on Friday, February 20, 2026, in Benin City. Mathew said the incident, which began with an initial road crash, attracted marshals and other emergency responders who moved to rescue the victims. According to him, while the rescue operation was ongoing, another vehicle rammed into the accident scene, hitting those attending to the victims. “The impact of the second crash led to the death of an FRSC marshal involved in the rescue effort and a driver who was present at the scene,” he said. He added that some drivers, who allegedly mistook the FRSC personnel for causing the crash, attacked them, thereby escalating tensions and creating chaotic conditions at the accident scene. It was, however, gathered that the unfortunate incident resulted in severe traffic congestion along the ever-busy Benin-Lagos Road, disrupting the movement of commuters and commercial vehicles for several hours. Speaking to newsmen, a driver plying the road, who simply identified himself as Iyobor, attributed the first accident to the alleged indiscriminate parking of trucks along the expressway in the area, which he claimed is close to the FRSC office. “Many motorists have rammed into these trucks at various times, resulting in deaths or severe damage to their vehicles,” he added. He alleged that the attack on the marshals was a result of accumulated anger.
