FRSC promotes 7,472 officers and marshals to enhance road safety nationwide
FRSC has approved the promotion of 7,472 personnel - 2,134 officers and 5,338 marshals - to strengthen professionalism and road safety operations across Nigeria. The announcement was made via FRSC's X page on Friday, August 20, 2026.
Heads of Departments, Corps Officers, Heads of Special Units and Commanding Officers have been directed to decorate the newly promoted personnel from Wednesday, August 26 to Friday, August 28, 2026.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed described the promotion as both a reward and a responsibility, urging beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them. He emphasized that "every new rank must translate into a higher level of professionalism, accountability, leadership and service delivery."
Mohammed stressed that FRSC's strength lies not just in patrol vehicles or technology, but fundamentally in the quality, character and commitment of its personnel who stand between road users and unsafe road behaviour consequences. He congratulated the promoted staff and urged them to "do more, lead better and serve with greater distinction."
The promotion comes as FRSC intensifies its operational, technological and public enlightenment efforts aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and improving compliance with traffic regulations nationwide. Mohammed also noted that additional rank insignia comes with increased expectations from FRSC, the Federal Government and the Nigerian people.
Will this significant personnel upgrade translate to measurable improvements in road safety and fewer accidents on Nigerian highways, or are deeper systemic changes needed to address the root causes of road traffic crashes?
