The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged all motorists across Nigeria to reduce speed and exercise greater caution as the rainy season sets in, warning that wet roads and poor visibility significantly raise accident risks. In a statement issued on Monday, FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said speeding on slippery roads remains a leading cause of crashes during this period. He advised drivers to maintain safe speeds, keep a reasonable distance from other vehicles, and ensure their cars are roadworthy before any journey. Mohammed also warned against sudden braking, stressed proper use of headlights, and called for focused driving. The FRSC has deployed patrol teams nationwide to monitor compliance and respond quickly to emergencies, and it urged road users to cooperate with traffic officials and follow safety regulations, stressing that caution and patience can save lives during the rains. The FRSC also reminded motorists to avoid driving through flooded sections, check tire tread and brakes regularly, and use windshield wipers effectively. It noted that many crashes occur when drivers attempt to cross moving water or ignore warning signs. The agency said its public awareness campaign will run throughout the rainy season, with radio jingles and social media messages reminding drivers to 'Drive alive, arrive alive.' Will you adjust your driving habits this rainy season, or take the risk?
