Geregu Power approves ₦9 dividend per share, shareholders to vote at AGM
Geregu Power Plc has approved a final dividend of ₦9 per ordinary share for the 2025 financial year, totaling ₦22.5 billion. This is a steady increase from ₦8.5 per share in FY 2024, continuing a trend of rising payouts. The board reviewed audited statements for the year ended 31 December 2025. The proposed dividend and financials will now be presented for shareholder approval at an upcoming Annual General Meeting, the date of which is yet to be announced.
The company, with 2.5 billion outstanding shares, posted strong performance in 2025. For the nine months ended September 2025, revenue jumped 37.38% in Q3 to ₦43.83 billion, bringing nine-month revenue to ₦131.47 billion—nearly matching the full 2024 total. Pre-tax profit grew 3.31% to ₦37.46 billion for the same period, while operating profit rose to ₦42.2 billion from ₦37 billion a year earlier. The growth was driven by energy sales (₦85.5 billion) and capacity charges (₦45.9 billion).
This performance comes amid sector-wide developments. Geregu stands to benefit from a ₦500 billion Federal Government payout to settle outstanding debts owed to power generating companies (Gencos), part of a broader ₦4 trillion debt resolution via bond issuances. The company's new majority owner, Abuja-based MA'AM Energy Ltd, is expected to receive a significant portion of this payout. MA'AM acquired a 95% stake in Amperion Power Distribution Company Ltd, which controls Geregu, in a $750 million divestment from Femi Otedola, one of Nigeria's largest private power sector deals.
