Ghana summoned South Africa's envoy over multiple xenophobic incidents, including one where a legal Ghanaian migrant was told to 'fix his country.' Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa met with South Africa's acting high commissioner Thando Dalamba to protest escalating tensions against foreign nationals.

South Africa, facing unemployment over 30%, has seen repeated anti-migrant protests and violence against African workers. Videos circulating online show Ghanaians being harassed, and Ghana's foreign ministry has advised its citizens to remain indoors for safety. There are approximately 2.4 million foreign-born people in South Africa, about 4% of the population.

During the meeting, Ablakwa emphasized Ghana's support for South Africa's anti-apartheid struggle and noted that attacks on law-abiding migrants contradict African solidarity principles. The incident highlights how economic pressures can fuel xenophobia despite shared continental history of anti-colonial struggle.
