Ebenezer Frimpong was arrested on April 17, 2026 for allegedly stealing a police armoured vehicle in Nkawie Market, Ashanti Region, Ghana. According to Zagazola Makama, the driver of the vehicle had briefly stepped away, leaving the engine running in the busy market, allowing Frimpong to enter and drive off. Security operatives launched an immediate pursuit along the Nkawie-Mim route, intercepting the suspect near Mim and recovering the vehicle intact.

The incident exposes a security lapse in how police vehicles are left unattended, even briefly, in public spaces. Although the armoured vehicle was returned undamaged and Frimpong remains in custody, the theft raises concerns about the safety of public assets and the potential misuse of such equipment. Authorities say investigations are continuing to determine the full circumstances.

What steps should police take to secure their vehicles when parked in public areas, and how can members of the public help report suspicious behaviour around security assets?
