GoCab Deploys 100 Electric Cars in Abidjan, Boosting Driver Savings
GoCab, the mobility fintech that operates Yango’s largest fleet in Côte d’Ivoire, has handed over 100 fully electric cars to driver‑partners in Abidjan. This delivery is the first half of a planned 200‑vehicle electric‑vehicle programme, giving GoCab one of Africa’s largest operational fleets of electric ride‑hailing cars and positioning Côte d’Ivoire as the current leader in four‑wheel EV mobility, a segment that has lagged behind two‑ and three‑wheel EVs across the continent.
Country manager Moulaye Tabouré said fuel can represent a driver’s highest daily cost, and cutting that expense by 60‑80% could transform driver economics. The EVs will mainly serve Yango’s premium GOYA service. A full charge costs about 8,000 FCFA (≈$14) and provides up to 470 km, whereas a petrol or diesel vehicle would spend 20,000‑40,000 FCFA ($35‑$70) for the same distance—a 60‑80% reduction in energy costs. Over 10,000 km, drivers could retain between 255,000 and 681,000 FCFA ($444‑$1,186) that would otherwise go to fuel pumps.
More than 300 existing GoCab drivers have already completed over two years in the firm’s drive‑to‑own scheme and are expected to begin taking ownership of their vehicles from 2027. Yango plans to invest at least $150 million this year to enter ten new African markets, focusing on secondary cities in West and Central Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique, treating cities rather than countries as the units of economic activity.
