Google launches free offline AI learning platform targeting 3M Africans by 2030
Google rolls out "Skilling Africa with Google"—a free digital learning platform letting Nigerians and other Africans acquire AI, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and digital marketing skills offline. The platform consolidates 15+ Google training programs including Hustle Academy for small business owners, Google Career Certificates for data analytics and IT support, and SCOUT, an AI-powered study companion. Users download lessons via Wi-Fi once, then access materials without internet or data costs on entry-level smartphones and laptops—no separate app needed.
The initiative targets 250,000 graduates by end of 2026 and 3 million across Africa by 2030, addressing the continent's connectivity and data cost barriers. Current language support includes English, Swahili, and Arabic, with Hausa and more African languages rolling out. Verifiable badges earned can be shown to employers or clients.
This builds on Google's previous efforts that trained 7M+ Africans in foundational digital skills. Meanwhile, the Federal Government's Coursera partnership (May 2026) targets 36,000 youths, and Google's Build with AI program (Aug 2025) trained 1,000 Nigerian developers.
