Guinea-Bissau stuns Nigeria 3-0 in AFCON qualifier, eyes return leg in Uyo
Guinea-Bissau defeated Nigeria 3-0 in their second 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on September 30, 2026 at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium in Bissau. Francolino Djú, Mama Baldé and Álvaro Djaló each scored for the home side, giving Guinea-Bissau a perfect start in the qualifying campaign after an earlier 2-0 win over Tanzania.
The result dents Nigeria’s hopes of qualifying for the 2027 AFCON and highlights defensive shortcomings ahead of the return leg scheduled for Uyo in March 2027. For Nigerian supporters, the loss raises questions about the team’s away form and readiness for high-stakes qualifiers.
Guinea-Bissau captain Beto (Norberto Bercique Gomes Betuncal) urged his teammates to maintain focus and avoid overconfidence, stressing that several games remain. Nigeria must now address defensive lapses, improve tactical discipline, and aim to overturn the deficit in the home fixture to keep its qualification hopes alive. Fans should watch for team selection changes and tactical adjustments as the Super Eagles prepare for the March clash.
