Houseof Reps gives 24-hour ultimatum to REA MD over funds
The House of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Managing Director Abba Aliyu to appear before it and account for N151 billion in government appropriations and $550 million in World Bank/AfDB grants received between 2015-2024. The lawmakers, following a motion by Rep. Paul Kalejaiye, stated five letters of invitation had been delivered to Aliyu but were ignored. Committee Chairman Afam Ogene declared REA must appear Wednesday at 11am or face arrest, citing the agency's failure to appear despite previous invitations and delegation of responsibilities. The committee demanded accountability for funds allocated to solar projects, energy efficiency equipment, and university power supply, warning Nigeria's international reputation is at stake.
