Ibom Air warns it may be forced to reduce flight operations as aviation fuel costs have surged 350% since January, from N2.1 million to N7.6 million per flight. The airline said domestic carriers are baffled why fuel prices in Nigeria are "way above global levels" despite most supply being sourced locally.

With competitive pressures preventing airlines from raising ticket prices proportionately, operators have been absorbing significant losses for nearly two months, hoping the crisis would pass. If the situation persists, airlines may have to cut capacity or scale back operations entirely.

Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) previously warned it might suspend operations over fuel prices that jumped from N900 to over N3,300 per liter. Despite government interventions, the underlying supply challenges remain unresolved, threatening airline survival and leaving passengers facing delays, rescheduling, and reduced travel options.

Will you be booking flights immediately or postponing travel until the fuel crisis stabilizes?
