ICPC Searches Nasir El-Rufai's Abuja Residence
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) conducted a search of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai's Abuja residence on Thursday. ICPC officials arrived at the property around 2 p.m. and conducted a full search, as confirmed by El-Rufai's media adviser Muyiwa Adekeye. The raid follows El-Rufai's detention by ICPC on Wednesday in connection with ongoing investigations. His lawyer Ubong Akpan condemned the search as unlawful, describing it as a violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights. The ICPC had previously stated El-Rufai is in custody since February 18th over allegations related to his tenure as governor from 2015 to 2023. This follows a series of engagements with security agencies, including a recent visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and an alleged attempt to abduct him. El-Rufai claims someone wiretapped the National Security Adviser's phone to intercept arrest instructions, leading to a DSS charge against him for violating Nigeria's Cybercrimes Act. The ICPC has not disclosed details about the specific allegations prompting the search.
