IGP approves new police commissioners for eight states and key units
IGP Olatunji Disu has approved the deployment of new commissioners of police to eight state commands and several strategic formations across Nigeria, following endorsement by the Police Service Commission. The appointments, announced Thursday evening, include Afolabi Olutokunbo posted to Abia, Ayodeji Faniyan to Plateau, Saka Ajao to Bayelsa, Ajo Ordue to Cross River, Nanna Ama to Anambra, Patrick Daaor to Edo, Tani Murtala to Jigawa, and Samuel Erale to Delta. In addition, the IGP redeployed senior officers: Commissioner Yemi Oyeniyi now heads the Intelligence and Training Department of the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja, while Commissioner Charles Dike leads INTERPOL at the Force Criminal Investigation Department. Other key units receiving new leadership are the Counter Terrorism Unit, Anti‑Human Trafficking Section, Anti‑Fraud Unit, General Investigation Section, Finance and Administration Department, Inspectorate, Welfare Department, and Training and Development Department. Police spokesperson CSP Ani Iniedu said the moves aim to strengthen operational effectiveness, advance ongoing reforms, enhance leadership across commands and specialised formations, and deepen community engagement while maintaining discipline and accountability.
