Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu congratulated 13 newly promoted Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and 17 Commissioners of Police at a decoration ceremony on July 21, 2026. He said the promotions reflect greater responsibility, not just a reward for past service, and praised the officers' commitment, resilience, and years of exemplary work. Disu acknowledged the sacrifices officers and their families have made, including long periods away from home and difficult working conditions.

He urged the promoted officers to lead with unwavering integrity, zero tolerance for corruption or abuse of power, and to show compassion toward the personnel under their command. Disu stressed the need to build a modern, intelligence-driven, technology-oriented police force while maintaining strong community ties, noting that public trust is essential for effective policing and obtaining life-saving information.

The IGP assured continued leadership support for officers' welfare, training, and career growth, and encouraged the new AIGs and CPs to mentor junior officers and uphold the Force's values. He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his backing of the police and commended the Police Service Commission for ensuring a transparent, fair and credible promotion process.
