Iheanacho joins Bursaspor on free transfer after Celtic loan success
Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has completed a surprise move to Turkish side Bursaspor, signing a three-year contract as a free agent after opting against a permanent return to Celtic. Bursaspor confirmed the signing on Friday, July 17, with a cinematic unveiling video on Instagram and a statement highlighting his experience and pedigree.
The 29-year-old Nigerian international enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Celtic during the 2025/26 season, helping the Scottish giants secure both the Scottish Premiership title and the Scottish Cup. He scored decisive winners against Kilmarnock, Dundee, Hibernian and Motherwell, netted twice in the Scottish Cup semi-final against St Mirren, and scored again in the final as Celtic completed a domestic double. Despite Celtic's interest in keeping him permanently, Bursaspor's more attractive long-term project won his signature.
Iheanacho's career spans Manchester City, Leicester City, Sevilla and Celtic, with 42 goals and 27 assists in 196 Premier League appearances. His move to Bursaspor adds firepower to their squad ahead of the new season and gives him another platform to revive his form. For Super Eagles fans, his continued European club activity bodes well for national team availability and form ahead of upcoming qualifiers.
