Ikeja Electric appoints Ogochukwu Onyelucheya as Acting CEO effective July 1, 2026
Ikeja Electric has appointed Mrs. Ogochukwu Onyelucheya as Acting Chief Executive Officer, effective July 1, 2026, succeeding Mrs. Folake Soetan who led the company since 2020. The announcement came via a statement from Head of Corporate Communications Kingsley Okotie, reported by News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The leadership change aims to deepen innovation, improve customer service, and drive sustainable growth across operations. Chairman Kola Adesina cited Onyelucheya's leadership experience, strategic clarity, and execution discipline, saying she will build on existing foundations to advance innovation, operational efficiency, and customer-focused growth. Onyelucheya called the appointment a privilege and pledged to enhance service delivery, strengthen customer trust, and deliver sustainable stakeholder value.
Onyelucheya brings over two decades of banking and energy sector experience, with expertise in strategy, financial control, operational transformation, process digitisation, automation, and revenue assurance. She holds a BSc in Accounting from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, an MSc in Finance and Financial Law from University of London, and is a Harvard Business School alumnus. The Board praised outgoing CEO Soetan's "transformative" tenure, crediting her with strengthening resilience, improving operational efficiency, enhancing stakeholder confidence, and supporting long-term sustainability.
This leadership shift comes months after the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) sealed Ikeja Electric's Alausa, Lagos headquarters over alleged consumer rights violations under FCCPA 2018. FCCPC's Director of Surveillance Bola Adeyinka stated the action protected consumer interests and ensured regulatory compliance.
Will this leadership transition translate to noticeable improvements in electricity supply reliability or customer service responsiveness for your area, or should consumers manage expectations given recent regulatory challenges?
