DAILY POST reports that 60 of its officers are to be trained under the newly formed unit to abate violent crimes in the State. In a press statement made available to journalists, the Command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, stated that the Command had commenced a comprehensive 3-day training programme for the selected officers who will form the VCRU of the Command. googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display('div-gpt-ad-1524595905268-5'); }); The initiative, according to him, is in direct alignment with the initiative and vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu to establish specialized and highly professional units capable of effectively combating violent crimes like kidnapping, terrorism, armed robbery and others, while upholding highest standards of professionalism, respect for human rights, and strict adherence to the rule of law. Okoye added that the training, which is ongoing, will focus on equipping the officers with the necessary knowledge and skills to discharge their duties responsibly and effectively. He hinted that templates for the training include, provision of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, 2015, United Nations Basic Principles on the Use of Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials, Rights of Vulnerable Persons, with particular emphasis on women, children, and persons with disabilities and Constitutional Rights of Citizens under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
