India boosts climate targets to 60% non-fossil power by 2035
India announced updated climate commitments, aiming for 60% non-fossil fuel capacity in electricity by 2035 (up from 50% by 2030). The country will also reduce emissions intensity 47% by 2035 vs 2005 levels, expanding carbon sink targets to 3.5-4 billion tonnes by 2035. While hailed as progress, analysts note the lack of emissions peak year and modest intensity target. India remains coal-dependent (75% electricity) but has met previous renewable goals early. The pledges follow criticism over delayed NDCs and face scrutiny on implementation capacity.
