INEC Denies Voter Migration Claims in FCT Polls
INEC has refuted allegations that voters were relocated to new polling units during Saturday's Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The Commission clarified that it implemented split polling units in locations with over 1,250 registered voters to reduce congestion, not voter migration. Split units were situated meters from original locations within the same premises. Voters were notified via SMS and emails between February 18-21 about their new locations. Challenges locating units occurred, but all 45% of open units by 8:30am were operational by 10:00am. Turnout improved to 239,210 voters (15% of registered) compared to 9.4% in 2022. Kuje Area Council results were delayed due to Kabi ward's difficult terrain. INEC praised peaceful conduct and cooperation.
