The electoral commission made this change following appeals from political parties via the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), which reported difficulties meeting the initial cutoff due to documentation and verification challenges. National Commissioner Mohammed Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, stated the extension ensures all eligible parties get a fair chance to comply with electoral requirements while remaining within legal frameworks established by the Electoral Act.

INEC urges parties to use this additional window to finalize candidate biodata, qualification documents, and party clearance certificates before uploading to the commission's online portal. The change affects all parties planning to contest the presidency, 109 Senate seats, and 360 House of Representatives positions nationwide in the 2027 general elections.
