INEC records 3.87M new voters; women, youth dominate Phase III CVR ahead of 2027 polls

INEC recorded 3,867,997 new voter registrations in Week 11 of Phase III Continuous Voter Registration ahead of the 2027 general elections. Women accounted for 52.68% (2,037,589) of new registrants, while men made up 47.32% (1,830,408). Youths aged 18-34 dominated with 67.29% (2,602,960) of registrations. Kano state led with 330,906 registrations, followed by Lagos (181,254), Delta (166,895), and Edo (156,150). Osun state recorded zero registrations due to its forthcoming governorship election suspension under Electoral Act 2022 Section 9(6).

This matters because it shows growing political engagement among Nigeria's youth and women ahead of 2027, while occupational data reveals students (892,946) and businesspersons (810,452) as largest new voter blocs. The Osun suspension demonstrates electoral law enforcement, and provisional status means figures will change after verification and claims processing.

Eligible citizens in low-registration states like Ekiti (2,276) and Ondo (23,824) should verify their status or register before data cleanup. Registration remains provisional pending Automated Biometric Identification System verification and public claims/objections.
