INEC rejects Jonathan's 2027 presidential nomination submitted by PDP faction

INEC has rejected the nomination of former President Goodluck Jonathan for the 2027 presidential election submitted by the Taminu Turaki faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The faction said they submitted Jonathan’s name manually after being denied access to INEC’s electronic nomination portal. However, INEC’s Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Victoria Eta-Messi, stated that nominations can only be processed through the commission’s designated online portal in line with electoral regulations, and manual submissions are not recognised. This decision invalidates the Jonathan nomination and raises doubts about the validity of other candidates put forward by the same faction. It underscores INEC’s strict enforcement of electronic submission rules, which could affect the PDP’s 2027 presidential prospects and internal party dynamics.
