INEC removed former Senate President David Mark and former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola as National Chairman and Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Wednesday, April 2, 2026. The decision follows a leadership dispute within the party and has triggered sharp reactions.

Legal practitioner Liborious Oshoma, appearing on Channels Television's 'Politics Today' on Thursday, said the ADC must also accept blame. He argued that the party should first resolve its numerous internal court cases before confronting INEC or the ruling APC. Oshoma noted that while INEC may be 'playing safe,' the court only instructed parties to maintain the status quo, not to take unilateral action.

The ADC has demanded the immediate resignation of INEC Chairman Prof Joash Amupitan and other top commissioners over the decision. The crisis exposes deep internal rifts in the opposition party just as preparations for the 2027 general election intensify.

This development raises serious questions about ADC's cohesion and capacity to present a united front. With multiple leadership cases already in court, the party's focus may shift from building electoral strategy to internal legal battles. Political observers will watch whether the ADC heeds Oshoma's advice to prioritize 'in-house cleaning' or escalates its fight with INEC, potentially weakening opposition unity ahead of 2027.
