Team officials confirmed that the Udinese shot-stopper sustained the injury during a session in Antalya, Turkey, and will not be available for Tuesday’s fixture. With Okoye sidelined, head coach Eric Chelle is left with Francis Uzoho and Adebayo Adeleye as the available goalkeeping options for the encounter. Defenders Semi Ajayi and Bruno Onyemaechi (whose wife recently gave birth), sources say, have also left the Super Eagles camp. Nigeria began the series on a positive note with a 2–1 victory over Iran, thanks to goals from Moses Simon and Akor Adams. The match also saw debut appearances for Chibuike Nwaiwu and Emmanuel Fernandez as Chelle continues to integrate new players into the squad. Chelle had earlier named a 23-man squad for the friendlies, leaving out first-choice goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, while striker Victor Osimhen is also absent due to injury. The squad, however, still boasts experienced names such as captain Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi and Simon, alongside emerging talents pushing for opportunities. Nigeria will take on Jordan in their final friendly this window on Tuesday, with Chelle expected to assess his options further despite the growing injury concerns in camp.
