IPMAN assures Nigerians petrol sales won’t stop despite deregulation concerns

IPMAN officials have dismissed reports that petrol sales in Nigeria will stop, calling the claim false and taken out of context. Speaking to DAILY POST on July 1, 2026, IPMAN Financial Secretary Musa Yahaya Mai Kifi said the government no longer fixes petrol prices, allowing marketers to buy fuel globally and sell it locally or export it, as Dangote Refinery currently does. He proposed a structured pricing arrangement: if Dangote receives Nigeria’s crude oil, there should be an agreement on the crude price, the refined product price, and the price at which marketers sell the product. IPMAN National Publicity Secretary Chinedu Ukadike added that many marketers are already suffering financial losses due to frequent market price drops and warned that any attempt to dictate pump prices in a deregulated market would be resisted. For Nigerians, this means fuel supply is expected to continue uninterrupted, but pump prices may remain volatile as marketers push back against price controls. Consumers should monitor official price announcements and consider how potential price fluctuations could affect their transport and household budgets.
