IPOB orders APC boycott in South-East over Kanu appeal delay

IPOB's Directorate of State orders immediate boycott of the APC across the South-East ahead of the 2027 elections, citing the federal government's refusal to list Nnamdi Kanu's appeal against his November 2025 terrorism conviction. DOS Head Mazi Chris Nwaogu announced the phased disengagement Sunday, directing members to cease attending APC rallies, stop carrying party flags, and deny all political legitimacy to the ruling party.

The boycott stems from what IPOB calls "judicial sabotage": an FCT High Court file on Kanu's 14-month illegal detention reportedly went "missing" two weeks ago, while the Court of Appeal has declined to list his separate appeal challenging Justice Omotosho's conviction—built, IPOB argues, on a repealed law. Nwaogu claims the APC deployed Operation Python Dance, fostered insecurity, and operates "Tiger Base as a slaughterhouse," while "bloodthirsty, unproscribed Fulani bandits operate with full impunity."

IPOB maintains its policy of "strategic non-partisanship" but warns any Igbo person campaigning for APC acts as "an enemy of the people." The group also denies social media claims of a renewed Monday sit-at-home order, calling it an "APC-inspired false flag operation." Meanwhile, IPOB lawyers have located 68 detainees reportedly moved from Wawa Barracks to Kuje, Keffi, and Suleja prisons.

With the South-East's voting bloc in play for 2027, will this targeted boycott pressure the government to list Kanu's appeal, or deepen political alienation in the region?
