Iran executed two men Saturday for membership in banned opposition group MEK and attempting rebellion through terrorist acts, the judiciary said. The executions are the latest in a series targeting MEK members, coming after four others were executed earlier this week. The men, Abolhassan Montazer and Vahid Baniamerian, were found guilty of attempting to overthrow the Islamic Republic through multiple terrorist acts. Their sentences were upheld by Iran's Supreme Court. These executions occur amid heightened tensions with the United States and Israel following strikes that killed Iran's supreme leader in February, sparking wider regional conflict. Iran is the world's second most prolific executioner after China, with multiple executions occurring since the war began, including cases involving espionage and killing of police officers during anti-government protests.
