Iran's nationwide internet blackout has now lasted 24 days, marking the longest recorded outage in any country according to internet monitoring group NetBlocks. The blackout began following joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran that started February 28, 2026, which killed Iran's Supreme Leader and triggered retaliatory strikes against US interests in the Middle East and Tel Aviv. NetBlocks reports international connectivity remains unavailable to the public while authorities maintain a selective whitelist for global access. Iranian officials have vowed to sustain the conflict, denying military capability decline despite attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf waters. This prolonged blackout coincides with escalating regional tensions, including threats to target Gulf power plants and mine waters.
