Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian acknowledged on state television that citizens are facing many problems due to intensifying US sanctions, describing the situation as a full‑scale economic, military and security war and linking the pressure to US President Donald Trump. He said his administration is working to limit the impact on inflation, livelihood problems and unemployment, while noting recent protests over living costs.

Iranian officials said more than 3,000 people were killed during the unrest that began in late December last year over worsening living costs, while foreign‑based NGOs accused security forces of a widespread and indiscriminate crackdown that resulted in thousands of deaths. Pezeshkian said his government is striving with all its heart to overcome inflation, livelihood problems and unemployment, and to secure the future of the people so that they can live with dignity and pride.

While the story focuses on Iran, Nigerians who follow global oil markets may see how sanctions on oil‑producing nations can affect prices that shape the country's revenue and cost of living. As a major oil exporter, Nigeria's budget and household budgets can shift when global oil prices move.

Will you review your budget, savings or investment strategy to buffer against possible swings in oil prices driven by such geopolitical tensions?
