Iranian Navy seized two cargo ships attempting to exit the Gulf through Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday. MSC Francesca (Panama-flagged) and Epaminondas (Greek-flagged) were captured for operating without permits and tampering with navigation systems. The third vessel Euphoria was also stopped after coming under fire. All crew members are safe, including 21 Ukrainians and Filipinos on Epaminondas, and 4 Montenegrin seafarers on MSC Francesca. This marks the first seizure since the US/Iran war began in February.

The Strait sees 130 vessels enter and exit the Gulf daily, making it critical for global shipping routes. Iran has called disruptions to the strait a "red line," while the US has imposed its own blockade after Iran's naval restriction. These actions follow Trump's indefinite extension of the ceasefire and the US Navy's seizure of an Iranian vessel, prompting Tehran's retaliation.

Nigerian businesses importing/exporting goods through Middle Eastern routes may face delays as shipping companies reroute vessels around the Strait. Monitor shipping companies with operations in the region for potential route adjustments, fuel price increases, and supply chain disruptions that could affect local market availability and pricing.
