Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched a new wave of attacks on Thursday, April 2, 2026, targeting facilities in the UAE, Bahrain, and Israel. The military's central command, Khatam Al-Anbiya, stated the strikes were retaliation for recent US-Israeli attacks on Iran's two largest steel plants.

Specific targets cited include "American steel industries in Abu Dhabi, American aluminium industries in Bahrain, and the Rafael arms factories of the Zionist regime." Additionally, Tasnim news agency, quoting the Guards' navy command, reported that data centres belonging to two US firms—Oracle in Dubai and Amazon in Bahrain—were also attacked.

The strikes resulted in an Iranian missile hitting a residential neighbourhood in Petah Tikva, Israel, as shown in photos by AFP. Israeli security forces and first responders were inspecting the site. This marks a significant escalation in the ongoing US-Iran proxy conflict, directly involving commercial infrastructure in Gulf allies and Israel.

For Nigeria, this escalation in the Middle East poses a direct risk to global oil supply stability. Conflict in the region typically triggers oil price volatility, which immediately impacts Nigeria's fuel import costs and government revenue. The article's sidebar references "UAE Petrol Jumps 30% As Mideast War Bites," signalling that price shocks are already materialising.

Nigerians should monitor fuel pump prices closely and track official communications from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. Any sustained spike in global Brent crude prices, driven by this escalation, will translate to higher diesel, petrol, and kerosene costs locally, affecting transportation, food prices, and overall inflation.
