On June 28, 2026, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it launched missile and drone strikes against US military facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain, saying the attacks were retaliation for earlier US strikes on Iranian military sites. The US Central Command said its forces had hit Iranian surveillance, communications, air‑defence, drone storage and minelayer capabilities after Iranian attacks on commercial shipping. Kuwait’s military reported its air defences were intercepting the incoming fire, while Bahrain’s Interior Ministry warned residents via social media to seek shelter as sirens sounded. Iran warned the US strikes violated a cease‑fire and would halt all diplomatic talks.

For Nigerians, the escalation threatens global oil supplies; Nigeria, as a major oil exporter, could see fuel price spikes that affect transport costs and household budgets. Disruptions to Gulf shipping could also delay remittances and goods reliant on Red Sea and Suez routes, and Nigerians working or studying in the Gulf may face evacuation or safety concerns.

Given the volatility, Nigerians should monitor reliable news sources for updates on oil prices and travel advisories, consider stocking essential supplies if fuel prices rise sharply, and check with employers or schools about contingency plans for citizens in the Gulf region.
