Iran's Quds Force commander resurfaces with 'more surprises' after reported death
Iran's Quds Force commander Esmail Qaani resurfaced with a statement claiming "more surprises" are imminent after conflicting reports emerged about his death. Qaani had been reported dead by some media outlets, with claims he was detained, killed in an airstrike, or executed as a "spy" for Israel. In a Friday statement to leaders of the "axis of resistance," the 68-year-old general noted they "possess valuable capabilities" and have "carried out effective operations so far, with more surprises to come." Qaani emphasized the allies entered the war against America and Israel of their own will in defense of Iran, and commended the "unity of the arenas" for resisting aggression. He stated the ideology of the Islamic Revolution will continue under Mojtaba Khamenei and declared the "front of truth will grow stronger" daily. No image or video of Qaani has emerged recently, and neither Iranian nor Israeli officials have confirmed his death. Qaani has a history of disappearing during conflicts and reemerging later, having previously been reported dead in 2025 and 2024. Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei denied Iran's involvement in attacks in Türkiye and Oman, calling the claims "a deception by the Zionist enemy" and accusing Israel of using false-flag tactics. Khamenei appealed to Afghanistan and Pakistan to halt hostilities and establish better relations.
