Israel has struck Iran's largest petrochemical complex in Asaluyeh, responsible for about half of the country's petrochemical production, according to Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz. Iran's Fars news agency reported multiple explosions at the facility earlier Monday. This follows March attacks on the South Pars gas field—a key energy hub—and Iran's subsequent retaliatory strikes on oil and gas infrastructure across Gulf Arab states.

The attack occurs just one day before former U.S. president Donald Trump's stated deadline for launching strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure if Tehran fails to agree to a peace deal. Mediators have presented fresh ceasefire proposals, with both the U.S. and Iran currently reviewing them. The escalation raises fears of broader conflict in the Middle East, potentially disrupting global energy supplies.

For Nigeria, this could mean higher global oil prices, impacting fuel costs and inflation, especially as Gulf stability is crucial for Nigeria's oil-dependent economy. The Strait of Hormuz—a key oil transit route—remains a flashpoint after Iran's earlier threats to close it.

Will rising global oil prices from this strike affect your transport costs or business operations?
