Kaduna police arrest 24 suspects, seize firearms and over 500 rounds ammunition
Kaduna State Police Command arrested 24 suspected kidnappers and recovered firearms, over 500 rounds of live ammunition, AK-47 magazines, 38 live cartridges and a bag of charms in separate operations across the state between September 20 and 24, 2026. Commissioner CP Muhammad Rabiu disclosed the results while briefing newsmen in Kaduna on Wednesday.
The seizures included two locally made AK-47 rifles, nine locally made long guns, ten locally made pistols, two AK-47 magazines, 50 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 38 live cartridges from one suspect, plus three firearms linked to banditry and cattle rustling along the Kidandan-Birnin Gwari axis. Police also recovered 270 rounds of AK-47 ammunition and 30 rounds of Type-06 ammunition from two arms trafficking suspects, and a stolen Hyundai Elantra in New Panteka where two men attempted to make a new key.
In Gimi Ward, Makarfi Local Government Act, police supported by local vigilantes engaged attackers in a gun duel after a distress call on September 20, wounding and arresting Usman Alhaji Dahiru and recovering a locally made rifle, pistol, three live cartridges, one live round and a bag of charms. Operations targeted kidnapping, banditry, arms trafficking, cattle rustling and vehicle theft, with ongoing efforts to apprehend suspects Saidu Magari, Mallam Ado, Abdulkadir Yahaya and others still at large.
CP Rabiu praised IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu for guidance, Governor Senator Uba Sani for logistical support, and community vigilantes for intelligence contributions, urging the public to provide credible information through established police channels, assuring confidentiality and professional action.
