SBM Intelligence quality-of-life survey ranks Kano first among 8 Nigerian locations with 3.92/5 score, beating wealthier Lagos (2.61), Abuja (3.09), and Rivers (3.29). The finding challenges the assumption that higher incomes automatically mean better living conditions.

Kano topped the rankings due to exceptional safety (3.98/5), affordability (3.53/5), childcare access, and reliable electricity supply (only 9.5% receive fewer than 8 hours daily). Despite these advantages, Kano recorded the lowest income score (2.08/5) among surveyed states, with 31% of respondents earning less than ₦100,000 monthly.

The survey measured 15 indicators including security, housing costs, healthcare quality, and community support networks. Abuja had highest income score (3.16/5), while Cross River ranked last overall (2.1/5). The report suggests safety, affordability, and reliable services may matter more for family wellbeing than earnings alone - a crucial insight for families making relocation decisions or policymakers prioritizing quality of life.
