Kanu, serving life sentence in Sokoto prison, announced indefinite expulsion of Chika Edoziem and nine other former DOS leaders from IPOB effective June 21, 2026. He accused them of grave Code of Conduct violations including abandoning him in detention, countermanding medical fundraising directives, undermining his legal case, and spreading false claims about his brothers.

This escalates IPOB's internal conflict after Kanu dissolved the Edoziem-led DOS on June 17 and appointed Chris Nwaogu as new head. Edoziem had previously claimed to suspend Kanu, which IPOB rejected as illegal. The expelled members reportedly face sanctions if associates engage with them per Kanu's warning.

Kanu insists all actions follow IPOB's Code of Conduct, which grants him exclusive authority to appoint/dissolve DOS. He urges global IPOB support for the new Nwaogu-led administration amid ongoing leadership challenges from prison.

Will this expulsion solidify Kanu's control over IPOB despite his incarceration, or further fracture the movement's unity in the South-East?
