Kenya to roll out HIV-prevention drug in March
Kenya will begin administering lenacapavir, a twice-yearly HIV-prevention drug, in early March across 15 priority counties. The medication reduces transmission risk by over 99.9% and is being introduced through a partnership with Gilead Sciences and the Global Fund. Kenya received 21,000 initial doses on Tuesday, with 12,000 more expected by April. The rollout follows a $2.5 billion US health aid deal signed in December, though implementation faces legal challenges. This marks Kenya's entry into a program already active in South Africa, Eswatini and Zambia since December.
