Keyamo blasts NDC's one-term presidential zoning as 'political 419'
Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo has criticized the NDC coalition's decision to zone its presidential ticket to the South for just one term ahead of the 2027 elections. In a statement shared May 11, 2026, Keyamo described the arrangement as an attempt to mislead Nigerians, questioning its credibility and sustainability.
Keyamo compared the NDC's proposal to former President Jonathan's 2011 pledge to serve only one full term, raising concerns about potential reversals if the eventual candidate defects after winning. "What happens if Peter Obi changes his party, assuming he wins, or as leader of the NDC he gets the NEC of the party to reverse the decision?" he asked.
The minister further characterized the proposal as "political 419" and a sign of growing desperation within the opposition camp ahead of the 2027 presidential election. His criticism comes as the NDC coalition, formed by key figures including Peter Obi and Kwankwaso, continues to shape the political landscape for the upcoming election.
