Klopp rejects Real Madrid job ahead of Sunday's presidential election
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has firmly rejected interest in becoming Real Madrid's next manager, ahead of Madrid's presidential elections this Sunday. Klopp's agent Marc Kosicke dismissed Enrique Riquelme's pledge to appoint Klopp if he defeats current president Florentino Perez, stating: 'He's not planning to return to coaching a club and happy at Red Bull.'
This development comes amid Real Madrid's presidential race between incumbent Florentino Perez and challenger Enrique Riquelme, with the election set for June 8, 2026. Riquelme had previously promised to appoint Klopp as manager if he won the presidency.
Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in summer 2024, has remained out of club management since, with his agent confirming his satisfaction with his current role at Red Bull. The announcement effectively removes one of Europe's most sought-after managerial names from Real Madrid's potential coaching options for the upcoming season.
