Kogi State Governor Ahmed Ododo led a delegation to Kuwait to secure development financing and technical partnerships for the state’s 2024–2056 development plan. The team met with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, Kuwait University, the Al Ahmadi Governorate, and the Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy. Discussions focused on water infrastructure, irrigation, agriculture, solid minerals, agro‑industrial projects, transport, communications/ICT, education and healthcare. The Kuwait Fund expressed willingness, in principle, to finance priority projects after technical and financial appraisal. A technical process was launched to prepare feasibility studies, engineering designs and project documentation to turn the talks into concrete investments.

The outreach matters because Kogi aims to transform its natural resources—water, arable land, minerals and emerging energy—into jobs, food security and industrial growth. Successful partnerships could bring affordable long‑term loans and expertise that the state currently lacks, accelerating projects that would otherwise stall due to funding gaps. For residents, this could mean improved roads, reliable power, better schools and health facilities, and new agribusiness opportunities in areas like Lokoja and Okene.

What should you know? The delegation includes the state’s finance, works, agriculture, water resources commissioners, the auditor‑general and the chief economic adviser. Governor Ododo credited President Bola Tinubu’s diplomatic support and the Nigerian Embassy in Kuwait for facilitating the trip. The next steps involve project preparation teams from both sides working on detailed plans, with no specific funding amounts or timelines yet disclosed.
