Kwankwaso rejects Obi-Atiku opposition unity, NDC stands firm for 2027 election

Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso reaffirmed yesterday that the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential ticket will not withdraw in favour of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), rejecting calls for Peter Obi to step aside for Atiku Abubakar. Kwankwaso, the NDC vice-presidential candidate, also denied allegations that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket was working indirectly for the ruling APC, stating this in a statement on Sunday, 18 October.

This follows renewed disagreement between the ADC and NDC over opposition cooperation ahead of the January 2027 presidential election. The exchange establishes that discussions about a joint presidential ticket have not produced agreement, highlighting unresolved questions about party coordination, policy differences, and alliance terms. Political analysts note this disunity could affect voter confidence in the opposition's ability to challenge the incumbent party.

As preparations advance despite unfinished constitutional amendments for state policing and the Federal Government challenges the World Bank's debt assessment, the opposition divide remains a key development to watch. Will you support a unified opposition ticket or evaluate each party's platform separately as the 2027 election approaches?
