Factional Labour Party Chairman Julius Abure has warned Nigeria Democratic Congress leadership against conceding too much influence to Peter Obi and his supporters, referencing his party's experience after the 2023 elections. In a statement issued June 8, 2026, Abure advised NDC's Senator Seriake Dickson not to make the same mistake Labour Party did in accommodating Obi's demands for political positions.

Abure alleged that many politicians who benefited from Labour Party's platform later turned against the party leadership, claiming they were given tickets "for free" as an investment. He specifically accused Obi of taking elected officials to "fight the leadership of the party" after winning elections on the LP platform.

The warning comes as NDC reportedly faces internal disagreements over allocation of elective positions, similar to the leadership crisis that emerged in Labour Party after 2023. Abure maintained that parties must maintain balance in position distribution to preserve internal stability, while also accusing INEC of contributing to his party's leadership crisis.

This political positioning ahead of 2027 elections highlights the challenges parties face when accommodating influential figures while maintaining unity. How will this dynamic affect the choices voters make when deciding which party truly represents their interests?
